Haven't written in a long time - I think those close to me know the story of my life for the past six months or so, and so I suppose the whys and hows and whens and whats of it all do not matter.

This will be my last entry ever in this journal,
I am embarking upon a huge new journey and I do not wish
to to bring any (badness) from my past with me.
Of course I have tons of goodness and wonderfulness
from my past that I carry around with me close to my
heart and I will be in touch with every single one
of those people that I associate with those feelings,
it just will not be via internet journaling.

So the long and short of it - I am in New Jersey!
For keeps! And it is cold!

I love you all and will be in touch soon!

It's a phonebag!

After I lugged my sewing machine across town,
it took us practically 2 hours to NOT get it to work.
Which is super bizarre because when I got home
I decided to stop being afraid of it,
started playing around with it, and as far as I can tell -
it works.

Which is not to say that my stitches are straight,
or that anything I make looks good ...
but by golly, I made SOMETHING!

What am I supposed to do with all this thread that sticks
out all over the place when I am done?
Cut it? Knot it?
Help!!

Going for my first sewing lesson today ...
let's hope that I don't make a total dunder-headed lummox
of myself and sew my finger to the "table-cloth".

(I can't call it what it really is, because I think my
sweet, gentle devout Jehovah's Witness sewing teacher
might balk at showing me how to make an ALTAR CLOTH)

Just read Alice Hoffman's The Probable Future.
I cried and cried and cried.
Alice Hoffman is the most incredible author that I have ever read.
Not that she writes about anything new -
it's mostly about human nature and love and sadness
and the people whose lives intersect and entangle in the
midst of all these things, and the magic that ensues because
of it all. Alot of readers apparently gave it a mediocre review.
Shame on them.

I woke up yesterday morning and I had a new doormat.
Just like that. No note, no nothing.

Maybe I am getting old, but every movie I have seen
for the past 6 months seems way too damn long.
By the time I get up to leave the theatre my knees have
locked up and if I stumble to the door without falling,
it's nothing short of a miracle.

Same thing with Tomb Raider : The Cradle of Life (The Cradle of Crap).
Now I love Angelina Jolie as much as the next person, but dammit,
it felt like I was watching her for at least five hours.
I think they sucked all the humour and personality out of her,
it was like watching her tear through a life or death adventure filled
"to-do" list.

Also watched Spirited Away...
and I wasn't too impressed with that either.
And the thing is, I really wanted to like it.
I really did.
I am not sure what is wrong with me lately,
I just can't seem to "get into" anything.

Super Target finally opened...
unfortunately I don't think this is what it will take
to draw a better class of people to the area,
no matter how exciting it may seem initially. Ha. Ha.
But they did have some funky clothes and I did get
to buy a pair of my super-sized alien insect silver headphones ^^

Mount Dora is incredible.
Visited runninggirl in her gorgeous new place,
witnessed a hit and run, drank way too much home-made
Long Island Iced Tea (note to self: next time something says "concentrate" - WATER IT DOWN!!)
and spent all of today checking out the quaint downtown area.
So many beautiful antique and vintage shops...
when I return I will definitely pick up a pair of pewter candlesticks.
And lunch at the Windsor Rose Tearoom, where I had steak and mushroom pie.
Definitely "stick to your ribs" fare, next time I will try
the high tea with pastries and tea sandwiches and all that
sort of thing.

Finally got the new DDR pads, I am sorry the old one broke,
but if they hadn't, I would never have started bellydancing again...
I will be ready for the Witch's Ball this year with my
mad belly gyrations!

Plus, I think I am watching the summer re-runs.
Well so what, I watch ONE LOUSY HOUR of tv a week -
it could be alot worse.
I could watch Friends, for example.

Tonight Ken Marino was on the show!
You may remember him from MTV's mid ninties comedy
sketch show
The State...then again, you may not.
Shame on you if you don't, it was the funniest show,
with the most creative/original actors, ever.
I wonder what they are all doing now?
Besides acting in the supernatural version of Melrose Place that is.

- Read Kitchen, by Banana Yoshimoto today.
Very interesting and passionate characters, very good book...
but very sad. The inside cover review compared her to
Marguerite Duras, but I just didn't see it.
I couldn't get even 10 pages into Duras' The Lover -
the character just seemed so lifeless and emotionless.
I just didn't see the comparison between the authors at all.

- Rented Possession this evening,
and it was a surprising good adaptation.
Of course, I might be able to say that since I do not
remember the book at all, but it was a very enjoyable film.
Also very sad.
I think I should watch/read more comedy.
I do wish, however, that they had found a different
actor for the main character.
He reminded me of an obnoxious St. Bernard puppy.

- Bought a t shirt that said "Naomi's Noodle House & Driving school.
I didn't need it, but I couldn't resist it.
Also got some stationary from Target for my new penpal(s).
And a lovely nap blanket which I tried to put to use during this afternoon's thunderstorm,
but I guess I just didn't have the nap in me.
Oh well, maybe some other time.

I am branching out ...instead of reading cheesy vampire novels,
I have started reading New York Times best sellers.
Don't worry though, I will never stoop as low as to read
Danielle Steele.
Even trashy novel lovers have to have standards.

So. My first pick? The Dogs of Babel
After his wife's "accidental" death falling from the backyard
apple tree, Paul, a linguist, becomes obsessed with teaching
the sole witness of the tragedy - the family dog - to speak.

Sounds stupid doesn't it?
Well, quirky yes, and very sad...but a surprisingly good read.
Guess there is something to be said for being listed on the New York Times.

Know what the best sandwich in the world is?
Country potato bread spread liberally with grainy dijon,
pepperoni, extra sharp white cheddar cheese, and kosher dill pickle slices.
YUM!

Keyboard totally spazzed out this evening right in the middle of
a crap movie. (Darkness Falls, to make a long story short
I wanted Donnie Darko but Blockbuster didn't have it
so I thought ok, maybe Punch Drunk Love, but some lady
convinced me to get Darkness Falls instead, she assured me
that I would like it. Lying bitch.)
So that would explain why I was typing in the middle
of a movie that I paid good money for - because it bored
the shit out of me. Then all the keys started sticking.
Hmm. Maybe it's all related.

Now I have a shiny new keyboard, but it just doesn't make
the same clicky sound that I so adored when the keys are struck.
How vexing.

Another thing that vexes me are young women who are a size 2
and who wear a D cup brassiere. How is this possible?
When I lost all that weight my boobs went with it...
so what gives? Now I am a size 4, sure, but I am down to a 34b.
So I guess it all evens out proportionally, but I don't still j
ust don't get it.
People will console me by saying that these girls were surgically
enhanced but I don't understand that either.
Where do people my age and younger get the money for
something like that?
Are they gifts?
How can you ever trust someone again if they give you $5000
and say "here pumpkin, fix yourself up a little,
I know the name of a great plastic surgeon"?

Now that I read over this it doesn't read very coherently,
but I will keep it the way it is because I want to remember
how angry I am right now.

I did it again...urgh...!

Before the movie last night, we went to TGI Fridays
and I ordered some stupid chicken dish.

Sizzling Chicken & Cheese *new*
Two marinated sautéed chicken breasts over onions & peppers
with melted American & Mexican cheeses.
Served with our signature mashed potatoes.

First of all, I was not not even hungry, second of all,
I DON'T EVEN LIKE CHICKEN!!

In a book I read recently they were genetically modifying chicken...

that scientists should create an ersatz chicken:
"a large bulblike object that seemed to be covered with
stippled whitish-yellow skin. Out of it came twenty thick

I have had a hard time with chicken ever since.
And on top of that, they gave me like, 3 tons of mashed potatoes.
Sure, I like mashed potatoes as much as the next guy,
but who the hell wants to eat that much of them?

Went to see Pirates of the Caribbean last night.
Not sure if was due to the fact that the aforementioned
superfluous meal was making me too ill to be comfortable,
or the that the movie was indeed too long, but the watching
of it seemed interminable. I wanted to like it, really, I did.
But I just lost interest after awhile. Even Johnny Depp couldn't save it.

And that Orlando Bloom.
I can't see this insane fangirl obsession with him.
To my way of thinking, he looks like one of those scrawny
latino gang members in Brooklyn or whereever the hell in NY
that they live. You know, the ones with the scraggly little
moustaches, and who wear long white t-shirts with baggy
basketball jerseys over them and lots of gold jewelry?
To me, that is Orlando Bloom.

Sorry girls, your taste sucks.

I can't think what it might be.

$76 Victoria's Secret [bra, dress, nightie]
$10 e-Bay [fees]
$8 e-Bay [origami paper]
$19.95 TWI [I don't even know what this is ...mem. must inquire]

I mean, look at all that crap - how much of it did I NEED?
Ok, maybe the gas for the car, but definitely not the
disgusting taco salad that mostly got pushed around on my plate anyway.

I have to re-evaluate my spending in a major way.
I don't buy books anymore because I can read them for free
from the library, I normally don't rent movies because I go to
the theatre once a week anyway, and anything else I can probably
download (shhh) or again, get from the library.

What else can I do?
I think a big problem is internet shopping...
or is it? I think I just like to get things in my mail box.
And wouldn't it be ever so much better if they were not
things that I actaully had to pay for?
Maybe I should start writing letters and sending care packages
and swap recipes and stuff like that via the USPS.

Who's with me? Send me some addresses dammit so I can
stop spending my hard earned cash on things like origami paper ^^

also Noche Flamenca (spanish dance company, also FREE) is going
to be @ the Museum of Arts and Sciences July 16, and @ the Port Orange

The first time I saw Weird Al was probably about 4 years ago,
and at the time I was accompanied by a very critical musician
and apparently I was hemorrhaging to death ( I don't remember this
last part, but my sister tells me it's true ).
I didn't have a BAD time, but by no stretch of the
imagination could you call it a great time.

This Saturday, I was accompanied by runninggirl,
(who is not a critical musician, btw)
and this time, yes, it was an AWESOME time.
I don't like crowds since usually when you go to an event it's like
a crowd of say...sports fans, or maybe...college kids...
or testy punk rock bitches that are only 4 feet tall but are still
aggressive little pushers and shovers.
Usually for music venues, it's a crowd of a certain type of person,
specific to the music or the musicians. -Not so with Al...
I think he is univerally loved and so he he has a wide ranging fan base.
We saw people there from 5 years old to 50 years old and everything
in between - pasty white programmers, pink haired rebellious angst-ridden teens,
a grey haired lady (right in the front!)whole families, and I think there was even
a group there from the retarded kids home.
Or else they were just some young men who were really obnoxious -
sometimes it's hard to tell.

But for the most part it was such a mild mannered crowd
that I didn't even mind that it was, indeed, a crowd.
Or maybe it was the fact that I was kept so liquored up
that I didn't even care ^^

Regardless, I had alot of fun. I don't think I have yelled
and screamed and jumped up and down and acted like such
a moron...well...EVER. It was great.

...which I guess is ok, I mean you're entitled
to have your own opinions, critical or no,
but it ceases to be ok when you are the critic
sitting behind ME.

Why is it that every time I go to a movie there's
always got to be some negative lout in the seat directly
behind me who feels it's his god given right to offer
critical running commentary throughout the entire film?
And he doesn't even bother to keep his voice down?
Why must the world be populated with so many assholes?

Last week it was Charlies Angels.
OK, so it's a hokey cheesecake film...
I mean you didn't know that when you bought the ticket?
Just what exactly were you expecting to see?
Meaningful dialogue? Artistic cinematography?
Get a grip, lame-o, it's CHARLIES ANGELS, for fuck's sake.
But as usual there was some moron behind us ...
I forget what his problem was, but there were many.
One of these days I am going to turn around and rip someone's tongue out, see if I don't.

Tonight we saw 28 Days Later"...
I will say this much - they probably could have cut about
20 minutes off of it, and it still would have been fine...
but all in all not too bad.
The lighting and the way the movie was shot was very interesting,
although I have heard alot of complaints about it.
I thought it was scary, but the scary parts happened
in like 5 second murderous- zombie- people flashes...
It made me very tense, when I stood up afterwards
I felt like I could have used a nice deep tissue massage.

Right now I am reading Porno by Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting).
It's a very funny book, but it's taking me an insane amount
of time to read it...
If you've seen the movie Trainspotting then you can
appreciate why. Remember those Scottish accents?
You had to watch the movie 5 times before you figured
out just what in the hell was going on?
Well the books are written exactly how they talk.
Here's an example:

Today I came home, kicked off my shoes,
fixed a glass of lemonade and plopped down on
the floor with a book that I have been waiting all
day to get home and read...
without even glancing at the computer.

I am making progress!

My scale is confused.
Last week it told me I had gained 6 lbs.
But today I am back to 1xx.
What gives??
The scale was a gift from evening_rain;
my bathroom decor seems beyond my control since
apparently my friends and family are determined that
I have a Hello Kitty bathroom at all costs -
obviously Hello Kitty isn't up to the job, or else
she can't count or something, because she gives me
a different weight everytime I step on her.

Stupid Hello Kitty -
I bet Badtz Maru wouldn't jerk me around like this!

think this week I will decoupage a bunch of them and use
them to store tiny things.

Simultaneously a very busy and a very lazy weekend.
Not quite sure how that works.

Thrifted, photographed, groceried, libraried, and strategically tried to avoid the heat.
Wonderful discovery at the store : blueberry harvest tea.
Blueberries, chamomile, rose hips - yum yum yum.

Baked from-scratch brownies;
used carob instead of chocolate...
they were so amazingly fabulous that I consumed half the pan
while watching Roman Holiday on loan from the library
this morning. Whoops.

A few weeks ago I read an article ("Is Poetry Dead?") in Newsweek that deeply saddened me...
I tried to feel rebelliously poetic this weekend,
but it just wasn't happening. I was too tired.
Maybe they are right.

Ever play that game where you scribble a few lines
of a story on a sheet of paper, fold it down so that
only the last sentence shows, and pass it on to the next
person for them to do the same?
And when everyone has a go, you unfold it and read
it from beginning to end?

This is what we came up with...

Once upon a time, there lived a horny old teacher named Mel.
She was addicted to Taco Bell since birth. Now her anus was
puckered and decrepit. Since she couldn’t keep her hands
off little children’s piss flaps, she was under house arrest.

She panicked at this, but then told herself,
“Discretion is the better part of valour”.
And so she proceeded to calmly pick her toenails clean in
preparation for her forthcoming journey to Kilamanjaro.
Changing her name to Ivana Humpalot, she finally reached
the summit of the mountain, where she encountered George Bush’s
second cousin thrice removed, and decided to make a jump for it.

As she fell her life passed before her eyes –
all the lost loves, ill-fated business deals,
all the deaths on her head – yes, she had lived
a very full life for a 6 year old.
Not surprisingly, she bounced a few times when she hit
the bottom, and rolled to a dusty stop next to a herd
of wild goats. Yes, she mused wryly as she walked off into
the hot pink neon sunset, it was definitely time to go on a diet.

I posted a book review of sorts here...
when I come across a great book or author, I want everyone
to know about it, and this lady is just out of this world.

Right now I am listening to Bruce Springsteen -
he reminds me of childhood. My mom used to have an ENORMOUS
record collection and she would listen to him all the time.
"One Step Up" is the saddest song ever. But also the sexiest.
Maybe it's just old Bruce ^^

Went and saw The Hulk last night...
don't want to say too much lest I raise anyone's expectations,
but I did enjoy it. Poor Jennifer Connelly, always cast
loving troubled men ^^
We went to an early (er) show, and I was really surprised
at how many kids were there. When I was a little girl,
the Hulk tv show TERRIFIED me.
Seriously. I had Hulk nightmares til I was about 12 years old.

I am looking forward to The Florida International Festival -
we don't get much in the way of cultural events round these parts,
so some of these performers look awesome.
Especially the Cuban jazz, the dancing gypsies, and the
Chinese folk music. And the best part is I think a great deal
of the performances are free.
Yay for free!!

Had a lovely blueberry pancake breakfast made possible
by the blooming Better Crocker-ette, and now must proceed
with summery solstice plans.

If it wasn't for the last minute, I'd never get anything done!

Driving to the bank today, I was very grumbly.
Hot weather and sweating makes me grumbly.

Everybody was acting cruddy all over the road,
not signaling (which, I am convinced, you WILL go to hell for),
running lights, driving too fast or driving too slow,
you name it, these dunder-headed jerkfaces were doing it.

I was yelling out my window, which was very rolled up,
at all of them, and I was just generally out of sorts.

Then the little announcer voice on the radio faded and I heard
the first few notes of Pachelbel's Canon in D,
and then everything seemed ok.
That music always makes me stop and smile and
believe in beautiful things again.

At the library I found the motherload in the young adult section -
several short novels of fairytale classics retold by Donna Jo Napoli.
I am going to sit out on the back porch every balmy evening
this week and read them and sip from a tall glass of
ice cold sweetened tea.

Vera Brogsol has got the lovliest, most whimsical artwork
(AND an intriguing web comic), and I was really excited
to see that in return for a small donation, she would sketch
a favorite character for you, with the emotion of your choice.
I guess she is trying to make a little bit of extra money,
and as I believe very strongly in supporting independent artists
and small business owners - I would support anyone who is
working hard for a dream - plus I just love her work...
so I donated ...and the mailman should be bringing me
a piece of original art sometime this week!
Yay!

In the next month or so I will be opening my small, intimate
web boutique for vintage & retro clothing ...although eBay is fun,
I would really like to expand and see how well I do with it.

Well it's time for that generic thing that everbody does this time of year...

How am I doing on my new years resolutions?

1. reach size 4 status - yes I am going to continue
obsessing until status is reached.
currently hovering between a 2 and a 4 - goal attained,
but would prefer to stop losing and gaining these same 3 lbs.
2. eat more fruits and veggies - Have already started this,
I am currently very addicted to frozen peas.
uhhh..was doing good until this past week when
all I have been eating is cheese.
and yes, I know about the problems I am going to have with that ^^;
this week I am going to pick up some blueberries and avocados.
3. take a business course - so I can advise certain people on
how not to run their business into the ground
nope, still haven't done this one, but I HAVE
received my diploma, so not all is lost.
4. become a proficient handy-woman - so I don't have to bat
my eyes at big dumb men to get the job done, I am starting
this weekend with a piece of furniture that I am going to
sand down and paint, and matting my own photos
don't know about this one either -
except for a few pictures I have hung, I haven't really
been all grr grr handy.
5. learn Flash - that was on last year's list too...
nope, not YET
6. craft more - already have some projects in mind -
magnets, coasters, potpourri, room sprays, and candles.
well, I did make magnets...and once I overcome the
fear of the sewing machine, I will be a force to be
reckoned with...
7. read more - have already started this, currently reading
The Drifters, and Orchid Fever : A horticultural tale of
love, lust and lunacy.
yes! this is something I have worked hard on,
I am going to the library every week now, and I am trying
to get AT LEAST one thing a week read. go me!
8. be a little more pleasant - i don't want my own mother
to fear me. this is a work in progress, but I think
I am gaining ground. at least where my mother is concerned.
9. save at least $2500 - i am already a quarter of the way
there. as of last deposit I am a little more than
half-way there!
10. be more thoughtful - phone calls and emails and
remembering birthdays aren't terribly difficult or
expensive, and they mean alot.
I am working hard at this too, but it's difficult
when people won't email you back.
AHEM. some people REALLY need to check their email.

So...on the whole, not bad, but I definitely need to give certain things some more attention...

Like the fact that I just had dessert for breakfast for one...

Oh! And saw some great movies this week -
ever since late last week I have been indulging in films
and not much more. Thursday runninggirl visited
and introduced me to the cinematic masterpiece that is
Mystery Science Theatre 3000 while we ate greasy chinese appetizers.
( I know this makes me wretched, but the funniest part was
when they were flying over some snow capped mountains and
one of the guys is all like "look! it's a team of dead soccer players!" ...I know, I am rotten...)

The rest of the weekend I spent thrifting and watching more movies...
Old School, which was not as funny as I had hoped, Adaptation,
which I thought was pretty good, and Secretary ,
which totally knocked my socks off.
There are not too many movies I could watch again and again,
but Secretary would be one of them.
And. Well. James Spader.
